2 Mothers Day Stocks (Nasdaq: REED) and (Nasdaq:KONA)

I took the bus from Ft. Lauderdale (because you cant fly into Naples/Marco Island) to cook Duck for my Mother on Mothers Day and noticed a pack of Reed’s Ginger Snaps on the shelf in the pantry.

I wasn’t sure if I’d given them or if she bought them. No matter. They were bundled up in a ziplock and are still sitting there. I forgot to ask her so I thought I’s pen this article to see if anyone was still reading because blogging in 2010 is like writing from Alaska…specifically if you’re a niche journalist. It’s kinda like writing about the boat prop part number for a Hatteris.

But I got to thinning about consumer stocks and realize that flight to quality no longer exists, and the New flight to quality remains in the pocket of the US Consumer…the strong back of the consumer and other than buying Walmart..I thought I would bring it down to the thinking mans level the 100M (MarketCap) companies..the same guy who takes the bus for $36.22 each way.. Also just an aside, I would short Greyhound if they are public…those drivers are gonna start leaving passengers dead center alligator alley soon. But Carl and I digress.

Reed’s has cool products, and I already get beverages from my Water Delivery guy so I wonder why Chris Reed doesn’t use the water guys who roll trucks every day..but I am an analyst not a beverage company CEO who started brewing Ginger Ale in his college dorm room..he is. But the neatly wrapped Ginger Chews on the shelf was not from me, Mom bought them because they are healthy for my step Dad…this is why I am writing.

Kona Grill is another niche name in our space and I really like the CEO is doing there. I think they have a big job ahead because the locations they choose expect extraordinary things from the restaurant and Phoenix Kona is a special place.

I don’t know the others, but have been polling semi happy customers. I also talk with CFO Mark Robinow every so often and he reminds me of the internal metric to pay attention to...the -average check metric – keep in mind this is my own terminology not Mark’s he has much more to watch than I.

Either way..both REED and KONA were mentioned by my mother so they get to ride the bus with me. World Market Media has no position in either stock nor are we paid by KONA or REED.
