HLIT - Harmonic's Electra 8000 chosen to Broadcast the Olympics

On February 5th I covered Harmonic’s quarterly conference call. During the call they were excited about the success of their Electra 8,000 encoder and its new capabilities for HD and 3D coverage as well as its acceptances at CES (Consumer Electronics Show) in Las Vegas, Nevada. After today’s press release, it is evident why they were so excited.

Harmonic announced that it’s Electra 8000 universal encoder was selected by WHDH-TV to broadcast 7 news pre-game and post-game shows at the 2010 NHL Bridgestone Winter Classic at Fenway Park between the Bruins and the Flyers.

They are also using the Electra 8000 to locally broadcast the Olympic Games in Vancouver.
The Electra 8000 supposedly has superior MPEG-2 1080i video encoding quality, compact design and improved bandwidth efficiency.
